Key stats

  • Career-high BWF ranking: world No. 6 (November 2022)
  • 2021 World Championships bronze
  • 2022 Commonwealth Games men’s singles gold
  • 2022 Thomas Cup gold with India
  • Paris 2024 Olympic fourth place — best Indian men’s singles Olympic finish
  • Still a top-15 presence into 2026 alongside India’s next wave

Lakshya Sen was born on 16 August 2001 in Almora, Uttarakhand, into a badminton family and developed under the Prakash Padukone–Vimal Kumar coaching tree that has shaped much of India’s modern men’s game.

He won World Championships bronze in 2021, Commonwealth gold in 2022, and helped India take Thomas Cup gold the same year. At the Paris Olympics he reached the bronze-medal match and finished fourth — the best Olympic men’s singles result India had seen.

Ranking peaks near world No. 6 proved he could live with the tour’s best; later seasons have been about reclaiming that consistency while sharing the Indian spotlight with younger players such as Ayush Shetty.

Sen is the bridge between India’s first Thomas Cup triumph and whatever comes next in men’s singles. If he stabilizes again inside the top 10, India has two generations overlapping. If not, his Olympic fourth and Worlds bronze still set the floor the next wave has to clear.
